It's been almost 6 years when I worked or build a livesteam locomotive. And although I love hamradio as my main hobby, some times the blood flows in a different direction.

When at then end of 2021, Regner Echtdampf introduced there Kastenlok Nr. 102 Paul Easy Line I knew I would like to build one in the future.

The famous box steam locomotive from Henschel & Sohn, manufactured in 1891 and operated at the OEG.

Number 102 is still preserved and is in the possession of the Technoseum Mannheim. Unfortunately, it is not on public display.

Our model version is equipped with a flame tube boiler with a superheater steam line, which is heated by gas.

The box-type locomotive is driven via a reduction gearbox with a two-cylinder oscillating steam engine, making it self-starting and thus easily radio-controlled. The wheels are electrically insulated.

It comes standard with a pressure gauge and a water feed valve for our pressure bottle.

The casing is painted in two colors, with pinstriping and lettering. The roof is also finished and painted beige.

Technical specifications:

L/W/H: 220 (over lamps) / 105 / 145 mm
2-cylinder steam engine, frame-mounted, self-starting
Cylinder bore: Ø 10 mm
Teflon piston
Stroke: 14 mm
Electrically insulated wheels Flame tube burner
Operating pressure: 3 bar

Steam line with superheater , pressure gauge up to 6 bar,
weight: 2.4 kg,
water refill valve for pressure cylinder,
controllable via hand lever, prepared for RC

Item No. 25580 Kit
Order no. 25581 finished model

When you want something, there is always to change that your forget about it. Mid June 2026, my son Joost send me a short movie of a event he participated showing his and one of my livesteam locomotives also a Regner Nr 102 passed by in all its glory and I was hooked again. Because it's not a cheap kit (the prices gone up Euro 100 in the years after the introduction) I hesitated a while, butt then the real world hit me. Because it was introduced end of 2021 and knowing Regner Echtdampf doesn't hold every model for a longtime there catalog, there would be a big change that it would be removed from the catalog next year.

Because  the QRM (man made noise) near my house is so high that most of the time I can't receive a weak signal, so I was already  busy selling multiple non portable radio/transcievers to increase my hobby budget for new projects.  So end of June 2026 I ordered a Regner Echtdampf kit and some spare parts at Modelbouw Atelier Apeldoorn and the waiting started.

After a little more then 3 weeks, I got a email from Henk that the kit and parts where ready to be picked. So a few days later, I took to train to Apeldoorn to pick up my new project.

Unboxing

When I home again, I cleaned the dining table and started to unpack the box.

As expected from other Regner kits I build (see links on the side), everything was nicely wrapped in paper to prevent scratches and damage.

Because it's a EasyLine locomotive, there aren't as many parts as the "big toys" kits, but still several bags with small parts.

And looking at the all metal housing of the Nr 102, I think I have made the correct choice to order one :-)
